Learn all about the different characters from the Faraway Tree books. In the beginning I will introduce only the main 9 or 10 characters, but also a description of some of the people from the strange lands up in the clouds will soon appear. If you have some good information, comments, or maybe your own description of some of the folks, you are welcome to mail them to me.

how old are the folks in the tree?

by johansrk

We learn a lot about the people in the tree an wood and lands. But how old do you think they are.
Can their age be compared to human age, or can Silky for example be much older than what a normal human can become.

Who is your favorite character from the books. Is it old dame slap, the 3 bears, moon face og someone else?? Me my self think that mister change about is a rather funny person, going from completely nice to totally mad and angry. Maybe not my favorite, but indead a marvalous person

The Tree, itself

by The Angry Pixie

What a marvellous tree. So alive, changing all the time. What glorious times we could have there. I have searched for the Enchanted Forest - if only it were near me!

Apart from myself, (I'm not really that angry!) I love Moon-Face and Old Saucepan Man. Silky is also a treasure. Even old Watzisname can be good company. Good old Dame Washalot is so good at attending to my laundry!

As Saucepanman said to me earlier:

Two goats for the larder,
Two tyres for the van,
Two scarves for the leopards,
And I'm a great man!"

Connie

Connie is the cousin of the three children. She appears in the last book, "Folks of the Faraway Tree", where she is to stay for some time together with Jo, Bessie and Fanny, because her mother is not felling well, and needs to go on vacation.

Right from the beginning, the childrens don't like the idea of having her visiting. She is awfully stuck up, spoilt and curious too, which is also why Jo gives her the nickname Curious Connie

when we meet her the first time, she is all dressed up, as was she going to a party. Her first remark she gives the children, when they come to pick her up, is "My, you do look conuntry folk", after looking them up and down. Connie doesn't believe in anything magical. Even if she saw it with her own eyes, she would still think that it was merly a dream. She thinks that people, believing in magical things, are old fashioned

Anyway she goes with the children for tea at Moonface's place. On the way she manage to get all inked over by the angry pixie, get splashed by dame Washalots dirty washing water, and fall down the Slippery Slip which ruins her pretty frog that she is wearing.

When she gets back up the tree again, swinging in a basket that is pulled up by the others, her curriosity manage to leave her in the land of Marvels, that flies away with her

Connie is rude to almost any people she meets, but during the book she starts to learn to behave.
