Up The Faraway Tree

by Watzisname

My lucky day today, I just obtained a copy of the elusive fourth book in the series, entitled Up The Faraway Tree. The main difference between this book and the first three, is that it is mostly illustrations. There are 4 pictures to each double page, with a small amount of story text under each picture. Despite this, it still contains 8 separate adventures.

The other big difference is an unusual piece of storytelling: at the beginning it is about two children named Robin and Joy, who are reading The Enchanted Wood. They decide to go and find Jo, Bessie and Fanny so that they can show them the way to the Faraway Tree. They do just that, and Robin and Joy now become characters in the story and go on all the adventures. An interesting technique by Enid Blyton to help young readers imagine that they too could find the tree and climb it one day.

Good luck to anyone else who is seeking this book - it is quite scarce but there are still copies to be found.

Original edition reprints?

by Anthony

Hi all from a newcomer in Australia -- my wife and I (and our grown-up children too) are all Enid Blyton fans -- St Clare's, Malory Towers, Secret Seven and the Adventure series are our favourites.
Sorry if this has been asked 100 times before, but can anyone tell me if there have been any recent (ie, past 25 years) reprints of the Enchanted Wood and Faraway Tree series (compendiums or single volumes) featuring the original artwork -- Hilda McGavin for the Faraway Tree series and Dorothy Muriel Wheeler for Enchanted Wood.
I doubt if I could afford first editions, but I would like to search for reprint versions -- so publisher and approx date would also be a huge help. That is, of course, if the original illustrated editions were ever reprinted. Hard to understand why they still aren't in print, for perpetual children like us!

The originals. Help please!

by betty_homemakerr

I was wondering in what years the books had to be published if I wanted the original versions of the books eg. Jo, Bessie and Fanny and not Joe, Beth and Frannie and Dame Slap instead of Dame Snap. Not sure what they thought they were doing by changing it, it was pretty much perfect the way it was. I'd really appreciate all help!

[quote:ebfadf6c83="Imsfaj"]'they' do but no-one ever really knows who 'they' are! Just a mass of people probably who think up useless phrases.

guess it's the "know alls"... from the folks of the faraway tree... they do nothing but site and think... pretty boring :D

ABOUT ME

Well here I am. The man behind this site. My name is Johan and I'm 26 years old.
I come from Denmark, and currently live in Copenhagen. I live together with my girlfriend and cat (not to forget)
I have been reading the faraway tree books ever since I was very young.

My parents had several different nannies, and most of them came from the UK. Therefore I was raised speaking both Danish and English, and sometimes a combination of the two :). English books have always been my favorite readings, and I must admit that first time I visited the Enchanted wood and the faraway tree, I couldn't leave again.

So what am I doing besides being a Blyton fan? Well I love to make websites, 3d, and take photos. Besides that I study at Copenhagen Business School, and work part time at a software company. Before school I did a lot of different things. Most of these things had to do with 3d animation, web pages, drawing.. you name it..

Well that was very short. I might add more info later. Have fun on this website, and remember to write in the forum
